In this presentation, attendees will learn how to define the sociological concept of stigma and gain an understanding of its well-described impact on people living with headache disorders. The effect of stigma on the safety of LGBTQIA+ populations will be explored across numerous domains, including healthcare. Finally, the sexual and gender minority stress model will be invoked to describe the cumulative role stigma plays in the lives of LGBTQIA+ people living with headache disorders, emphasizing the need for efforts to promote compassionate, individualized care for these vulnerable populations.
